Braces Care
Good oral hygiene and proper care for your braces is vital through the length of your treatment in maximising your results. Brushing and flossing your teeth can be challenging when wearing braces but is extremely important that you do both consistently.
It is recommended that during your orthodontic treatment, you keep a regular schedule of dental examinations with your general dentist. After your treatment, you’ll have a beautiful smile and teeth that are easier to keep clean, healthy and attractive.
Braces, wires, bands and retainers can all trap food particles and make it difficult to brush or floss away plaque. Careful brushing and flossing preferably after every meal and snack is the best way to prevent plaque build up, tooth decay and gum disease.
Avoid hard foods which loosen brackets and bend wires and cut food in small bite size pieces.
Stay away from sugary, sticky and chewy foods such as lollies, chewing gum and chocolates.
Do not drink soft drinks; we recommend that you drink plenty of water and natural juices.
Be aware of hard, crunchy foods such as apples, carrots, corn off the cob, steak, pork crackling and bones.
Avoid biting your fingernails.
